"Vaiseshika" Digital Oil Spectrophotometer Type : 7707
Description
it has been designed for the Edible Oil Industry to measure metallic impurities of Copper, Nickel, Ferrous and Phosphate in ppm level in the Edible Oils like Coconut Oil, Groundnut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Soyabean Oil, Mustard Oil and other similar edible oils. This instrument has been designed and manufactured in technical collaboration with the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh under the Technology Modernization and Upgradation Mission for Oil and Pulses Industry launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, New Delhi.
Oils and fats obtain metal contents from soils where the plants are grown and later from contact equipment during crushing and storage. Many of the metal ions promote autoxidation that results in off – flavour and odour accompanied by colour development. Studies have identified copper as the most harmful metal followed by Fe, Mn, Cr, Ni, Concentration of these ions vary from 0.1 to 2.0 ppm. To measure these ions costly analytical instruments are being used.
CSIO has developed An integrated System along with test reagents ti measure metallic impurities Cu, Ni & Fe and Phosphate – P In ppm level. This is a portable, low cost instrument in which results of concentration are directly displayed on LCD. The developed stable reagents eliminate cumbersome colour development procedures.

Specification
Type
: Digital
Measuring Range
: 0.01 ppm to 2.0 ppm for Iron,
Copper & Nickel &
: 0.01ppm to 0.70ppm for Phosphorous
Nickel :- Nickel has been determined using dimethyl glyoxime method.
Copper :- Copper ions from brown colour with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate solution.
Iron :- The orange red colour formed by ferrous iron with 1, 10 Ortho-phenanthroline is the basis of determination of iron.
Phosphorus :- Phosphorus reacts with potassium antimony tartrate and ammonium molybdate solution to form phosphoantimonyl molydate complex which on reduction with ascorbic acid forms blue colour.
Test reagents required
Specific test reagents have been developed for the qualitative detection and quantitative estimation of copper, nickel, iron and phosphorus. The test reagents have been prepared in such a way that maximum two number of reagents are required for colour development of an ion under test. The shelf life of each reagent is more than six months.
Advantages
Presently the estimation of the toxic metallic ions in edible oils is done through expensive analytical instruments. The existing Oil Spectrophotometer is an integrated system along with test reagents to measure metallic impurities. This is an electronic, portable and low cost instrument which provides results of concentration in direct liquid crystal digital display and eliminate cumbersome colour development procedures.
Applications
Metallic ions present in Edible Oils, Water samples, Pollutants, Metals & Alloys and High purity materials.
Inorganic phosphate – P in Edible Oils, Water samples, Eutrophication measurments an in different materials.
